We will be planting 90,000 lbs of sterile,
triploid trout this fall and winter!
Lake Camanche is excited to announce that we will be planting approximately 90,000 lbs of sterile, triploid trout this fall and winter. These fish are coming from the Mokelumne Fish Hatchery, right in our own backyard. 20,000 lbs of trout will be planted at the end of October, followed by 10,000 lbs each month until May. These plants are funded by the East Bay Municipal Utilities District in cooperation with the California Department of Fish and Game.
TROUT
There were few reports from trout fishermen this week, but the reports we got were pretty positive. Ray McLund was trout fishing on Wednesday, trolling in the main lake by the dam and caught a nice limit. His biggest weighed in at 5.2 lbs. He caught them all on a silver and blue lure. Steve Keller from Sacramento also caught a nice limit of trout this week. He fishes in the main lake using PowerBait.
BASS
No bass reports this week, but the usual summer patterns are still working. Senkos, Robo Worms, or Baby Brush Hogs in smoke, purple, green pumpkin, or natural shad colors all work well, as do jigs in black/purple, brown/purple. Top water baits are effective early or late in the day, as well as crank baits in crawdad color, or spinner baits in chartreuse/white, white, or yellow. Fish are between 15-35 feet deep, and like to hang on rocky points, submerged trees and structure, and deep drop-offs.
CATFISH
The catfish are still biting. After-dark seems to be the best time. Chicken liver, night crawlers, and mackerel are the choice baits.
We encourage all anglers to report their stories, comments, or concerns to the North Shore Store, the South Shore Store, or by email to lbuie@camancherecreation.com. Thanks again for choosing Lake Camanche as your recreation destination.
As of June 9th, 2009 E.B.M.U.D no longer permits any live bait (minnows, crawdads, frogs, etc.) to enter the water of Lake Camanche or any other lakes operated by E.B.M.U.D. Lake Camanche will no longer be selling any live minnows at the marina.
On behalf of Camanche Recreation Company... Boat safely, and happy fishing!
